How To Make The Most Of Your Official Recruiting Visits

Did you know that you are allowed ONLY 5 Official Recruiting Visits? Do you have all of your recruiting visits scheduled with the coach that is recruiting you? Be sure to schedule your recruiting visits as soon as possible, so you can make your final collegiate decision. Have a lot of fun on your recruiting trip and BE SURE to make it a BUSINESS TRIP!

Years ago, when I took my recruiting visit to Stanford I had a great time. It was a ton of fun meeting great players from all over the country. Coach Green teamed me up with a great player on the team to show me around campus and Palo Alto. I had an amazing trip, and the key is that the entire time I stayed focused on keeping it a business trip.

Why is this important?

One the most important reasons to think of it as a business trip is because as soon as you leave campus, the coach is going to call your host into his office and interview him about you. He is going to be asking your host:

Do you think he would fit into our program?

Does he seem like a kid that can fit into our program?

How did he behave when you were out and about?

These are just a few questions a coach will ask his players, and my point is that the coach is going to grill the person he teamed you up with to make sure you seem to be a student-athlete that will fit into his program.

A few key points to keep in mind as you take your visits:

1. Prepare ahead of time – visit with your coach and/or parents and write down any and all questions you have about the school/program.

2. ALWAYS do the right thing when you are on campus. Your host may take you to places that will put you in tempting situations. DO NOT take the bait…keep your head on straight and do the right thing.

3. Visit with as many current players as possible. They will be able to give you a GREAT feel of the college and its program.

4. Always talk to students as well. Find out what they like about the school…how are the athletes treated on campus? Do the athletes fit in? Get a good feel of what your collegiate experience will be like from as many people as possible.
